History
A comprehensive space program should encompass (1) Mission Definition: scientific exploration and technological applications, and (2) Space Engineering: ground segment (satellite telemetry, tracking, and command mission operations center), launch vehicle segment (rockets), and space segment (satellites).
National Central University (NCU) has long been dedicated to advancing space science and technology research. Since its re-establishment in Taiwan in 1962, NCU pioneered the nation's first Upper Atmosphere (i.e., Space) Division under the Department of Atmospheric Physics. Subsequently, in 1990, in alignment with national space development, NCU established Taiwan's first Graduate Institute of Space Science. In addition to theoretical space science, the university incorporated space engineering education and research—including suborbital sounding rockets and satellite payload development—becoming the nation's most comprehensive institution for space education and research.
